Investigating the extent of negligence in the field of obstetrics and gynecology and related causes in the cases referred to the General Directorate of Medical Commissions of Tehran Province from the beginning to the end of 1396

Introduction: Despite the efforts of the medical community, the number of complaints from the medical staff is increasing. Complaints about obstetrics and gynecology are among the most common in recent years. Method: The study (descriptive, analytical and cross-sectional) is applied based on the purpose and was done by census method. Complaint files from obstetricians and gynecologists within a year and after assessing the reliability and validity; Data were collected and analyzed by SPSS statistical software. Results: Out of 140 cases reviewed; 50 cases led to negligence and 90 cases led to innocence. Out of a total of 50 cases; (58%) carelessness (38%) negligence (2%) non-compliance with government systems (2%) lack of skills; (4%) Delay in diagnosis (22%) Misdiagnosis (18%) Delay in treatment (16%) Indication of diagnostic or therapeutic action (8%) Lack of diagnosis (8%) Improper technique (16%) Failure to comply with scientific standards (4%) lack of supervision of resident work (2%) disciplinary negligence (2%) nurse negligence; Had occurred. Results: The most common type of negligence is carelessness; increasing the accuracy of treatment can reduce the rate of negligence. Misdiagnosis and delay in treatment and incorrect technique are the most common causes of failure. Necessary planning can have a significant impact on reducing medical error.
